Delete your account and data

Taper (taperapp.co.uk) lets you delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time, and it takes effect immediately. Here is how.

Delete it yourself, in the app

This is the quickest way and needs nobody's help:

  1. Open Taper and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile, then open the Data tab.
  3. Scroll to Danger zone at the foot of the tab and type DELETE in the box.
  4. Press Delete my account, which the typed word has now armed.

Your account and all its data are removed from the live database straight away. You do not have to disconnect anything first - deleting the account also destroys the access tokens for any provider you connected (Garmin, Strava, intervals.icu).

Or ask us to do it

If you cannot get into the app, email info@taperapp.co.uk from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. A human will do it and reply. You can use the same address to ask for a copy of your data first.

What is deleted

Everything we hold for you, immediately:

  • Your account - email address and name.
  • Every activity imported from the services you connected: distance, time, pace, heart rate, laps, cadence, the route you ran (GPS coordinates) and the second-by-second traces behind the charts.
  • The training plans, workouts, notes and corrections you made in Taper.
  • Your Garmin, Strava and intervals.icu access tokens, and your parkrun barcode.

Workouts Taper had put on your watch or calendar are removed too, wherever we can still reach them.

What is kept, and for how long

After deletion we keep one thing, and only to stop your account being silently recreated: a one-way hash of your email address (and, if you used Strava sign-in, your Strava athlete id) on a small suppression list, so that a later reconnection from a provider does not rebuild the account you asked us to close. It contains no readable personal data - the hash cannot be turned back into your email. Routine encrypted backups age out on their normal cycle. Nothing else is retained.
